Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two foreign nationals over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure, in a case investigators say involved a group operating under the guise of football scouting agents.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Nigerien Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe Aziz Wadrago Mane, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng, the Ashanti Regional Police said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the two suspects are connected to a four-member group allegedly posing as football scouts.
According to police, the group allegedly used online platforms to lure victims to Ghana with promises of football opportunities, raising concerns about the exploitation of aspiring footballers through fraudulent scouting arrangements.
The arrests are part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and death of Toure.
Police are working to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and identify any other individuals linked to the case.
The investigation is still ongoing, with police pursuing further leads and possible additional suspects.
