Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has joined the national team’s backroom staff as Clubs and Player Relations Manager.
Gyan takes up the new role with responsibility for improving the relationship between the Black Stars, players and their respective clubs.
His appointment is also expected to focus on player welfare, communication and engagement as the national team prepares for upcoming assignments.
The former striker is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, having scored 51 goals for the Black Stars during his international career.
Gyan also captained Ghana at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and featured at three FIFA World Cup competitions.
In his new position, the former captain will serve as a link between the technical team, players and their clubs.
His duties will include helping to improve communication on player call-ups, supporting player welfare and facilitating better engagement between the national team and clubs.
Gyan will also provide mentorship and support to members of the playing squad, drawing on his experience as one of Ghana’s most experienced international players.
His return to the Black Stars setup marks a new chapter in his involvement with the national team after ending his playing career.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to benefit from Gyan’s experience and knowledge of the national team environment as the Black Stars continue preparations for their upcoming competitions.
The new role is also expected to help create stronger cooperation between the national team and clubs, particularly on matters involving players selected for international duty.
