Member of Parliament for Trobu, Gloria Owusu, has called on the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor of the Ghana Police Service to provide the public with more information on the ongoing cocaine case involving Ghana and France.
In a statement, the MP said the CID boss should use the same level of energy she has demonstrated in speaking about the “Ghana Jollof” matter to address the nation on the cocaine case.
According to the MP, Ghanaians deserve greater clarity about the investigations, particularly regarding those who have been arrested and the circumstances surrounding the case.
She said the public should be informed about the identities of persons arrested, where they come from and their alleged connections to the suspected cocaine shipment.
“Ghanaians deserve to know who has been arrested, where the person is from, their alleged connections, and how Ghana became linked to cocaine trade like never before,” she stated.
Her comments come amid heightened public attention following the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine in France from a container that reportedly originated from Ghana.
The case has triggered discussions about Ghana’s ports, security systems and the possible involvement of individuals in the movement of illegal drugs through the country.
Authorities have since begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shipment, with several people reportedly being arrested in connection with the case.
The Trobu MP said the public was waiting for answers from the security agencies and called for the relevant authorities to communicate clearly on the matter.
“This is what the nation is waiting to hear,” she said.
