Two people have been arrested in Accra for allegedly collecting money from parents and students under the false promise of securing placements in preferred Senior High Schools through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The suspects have been identified as 24-year-old University of Ghana graduate Vicentia Appiah Antwi and 18-year-old unemployed Suzzy Owusu.
They were arrested on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the CSSPS Resolution Centre after an alert was raised over their alleged activities.
The case came to the attention of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu after two BECE candidates reported the matter and provided evidence indicating that the suspects had approached them with offers to influence their placement in exchange for payment.
According to information gathered by the authorities, the suspects allegedly demanded amounts ranging from GH¢9,500 to GH¢22,000 from individuals seeking placement in their preferred schools.
Following a review of the evidence presented, Haruna Iddrisu directed the relevant security agencies to investigate the matter, resulting in the arrest of the two suspects.
They were subsequently handed over to the Intelligence Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for further questioning.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly mentioned two other individuals they claimed were involved in the alleged scheme. They named Nana Yaw Boateng, whom they identified as a medical doctor at Kwadaso SDA Hospital in Kumasi, and Alex Asumani, also known as Lexus.
The suspects were cautioned and detained for 24 hours before being granted bail to a credible surety as investigators work to trace the persons they named.
Police have taken statements from the two victims and their parents. The alleged accomplices have also been asked to report to the police to assist with the investigation.
The Ministry of Education has again stressed that CSSPS placement is free and urged parents and students not to pay individuals who claim they can secure school placements for them.
