Business owners operating along the Obetsebi Lamptey–Kaneshie First Light stretch have raised concerns over declining sales following the closure of the Pamprom road.
The traders say the closure has made it difficult for customers to access their shops and businesses, leading to a major drop in patronage.
The affected businesses are located along the section of the road impacted by stormwater drainage improvement works under the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) Project.
According to some of the traders, the traffic and restricted access have discouraged customers from visiting the area. They fear the situation could continue to affect their livelihoods if the works are not completed soon.
Speaking in an interview, one trader said many customers who attempt to reach the area are forced to turn back because of the traffic situation.
“It is really having an impact on our businesses. Due to the traffic, most of our customers have to return. The sales have really come down,” the trader said.
The trader appealed to the authorities and the contractor working on the project to speed up the construction.
“We are pleading with authorities to speed up work for our sake,” the trader added.
Another business owner said the situation had lasted for about two weeks and had severely affected business activity.
“For two weeks now, we have not made any sales. It’s very disturbing. We have not even seen any work commence so far,” the business owner said.
The traders are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to address the situation and ensure that the drainage improvement project progresses quickly.
They said completing the works and reopening the road would help restore access to the area and allow businesses along the stretch to return to normal operations.
