Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has expressed his desire to see the Ballon d’Or return to the Spanish giants, insisting that winning the prestigious individual award is not his main focus.
Mbappé was asked about his favourites for this year’s Ballon d’Or but played down the importance of discussing his own chances, saying his priority is to help Real Madrid compete for major honours.
“That is not my problem because I don’t think about what I can do to win it,” Mbappé said.
The France international, however, made it clear that he would like to see the award return to the Santiago Bernabéu, where several Real Madrid players have previously claimed the individual honour.
“The most important thing for me is that the Ballon d’Or returns to Real Madrid. It is the best team in the world,” he said.
Mbappé added that the award would bring joy to the club’s supporters and said Real Madrid players are expected to compete for the biggest individual and team prizes.
“It has to return to the Bernabéu, to the Madridistas, for it to come back for all those people, to give them joy. Those people deserve it more than anyone in the world,” he added.
The 27-year-old also highlighted the responsibility that comes with representing Real Madrid, a club whose players have won the Ballon d’Or on numerous occasions.
“Being a Real Madrid player means fighting for every award. The Ballon d’Or is an award,” Mbappé said.
He expressed his ambition to become another Real Madrid player to lift the prestigious trophy.
“There are many players who have managed to bring it here, and I want to be one of them,” he added.
