A road accident on the Hwidiem-Acherensua Highway in the Ahafo Region has reportedly resulted in the loss of seven lives, while 21 others have sustained injuries.
The incident, which involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GT-9931-09 and a Kia Picanto registered BA-731-20, took place on Tuesday, September 8.
Preliminary findings suggest that the Sprinter experienced a tyre burst, leading the driver to lose control. The vehicle then somersaulted and collided with the Kia Picanto.
Firefighters from the Hwidiem District Fire Station, who responded to the scene, rescued the victims, who were later transported to St Elizabeth Hospital in Hwidiem for medical care.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are currently ongoing.
In the meantime, the Fire Commander for the Ahafo Region, ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, has visited the injured individuals at the hospital and expressed his wishes for their swift recovery.
This accident has reignited concerns regarding road safety, particularly emphasizing the importance for motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy prior to embarking on journeys.
