The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA have presented a detailed report on the state of amateur football in Ghana following a multi-year assessment of the country’s amateur football environment.
The presentation was organised by the GFA Technical Directorate in partnership with FIFA’s Global Football Development Division during a two-day event held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on August 25 and 26, 2026.
FIFA Technical Experts Ali Mwebe and Serame Ezekiel Letsoaka, who is responsible for amateur football in Africa, led the programme with support from the GFA Technical Directorate.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku opened the event, which initially focused on the Association’s Executive Committee, management and staff. They were presented with the global Amateur Football Environment Analysis report as well as the specific findings from Ghana.
The second day brought together a wider group of stakeholders involved in the development of football in the country. They included representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, National Sports Authority, Ministry of Education, Ghana Olympic Committee and Ghana Education Service.
Officials from the Women’s Football Committee, various leagues, sports media, Medical Committee, Referees Committee, junior national team coaches, Beach Soccer, Futsal and football academies also participated.
The presentation provided an overview of amateur football structures and activities at both the global and national levels. It also highlighted areas that require attention and opportunities for improving the organisation and development of amateur football in Ghana.
