The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a major increase in prize money for clubs competing in the Ghana Premier League, with the 2026/27 champions set to receive GH¢3 million.
The runners-up will earn GH¢1 million, while the team that finishes third will receive GH¢800,000. The new package is expected to provide greater financial motivation for clubs competing in Ghana’s top-flight league.
The revised prize structure was announced by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku during the Association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
According to the GFA, the increase forms part of efforts to strengthen domestic football and improve the financial position of clubs.
The financial rewards will also extend beyond the top three positions. Clubs that finish between fourth and 10th will receive prize money based on their final positions on the league table.
The move means more clubs will have a financial incentive to perform well throughout the season, including during the final stages of the campaign.
The increased rewards could also give clubs additional resources to improve their operations, strengthen their squads and prepare for domestic and continental competitions.
The GFA believes the new structure will encourage stronger competition and make league success more valuable to clubs.
The announcement comes as part of a broader financial support package for Premier League teams. Each club is also expected to receive GH¢1 million in support ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The GFA says the measures are aimed at creating a stronger and more sustainable financial foundation for Ghanaian clubs while improving the competitiveness and commercial appeal of the Premier League.
