Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has urged party members to come together and establish a strong coalition in preparation for the 2028 general election.
Mr. Afoko emphasised that only a well-organised and united party can achieve victory in 2028. “Our members want a party in which everyone feels they belong, and they want an NPP that is disciplined, organised, and respected.
They want an NPP whose grassroots are not remembered only when elections are approaching and, above everything else, they want an NPP capable of returning to government in 2028,” he stated.
He highlighted that his intention is not to pursue the chairmanship for the sake of a title, but to contribute to the development of the party that the future demands.
“I am not seeking the Chairmanship because I need a title. I have occupied this office before. I seek your mandate because I believe that at this moment in the history of our party, my experience, my convictions and the lessons of the past can help us build the NPP that the future requires,” Mr. Afoko remarked.
The former chairman made these comments following the formal submission of his nomination for the NPP National Chairmanship.
“Today, I have formally submitted my nomination to serve once again as National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. I do so with humility and gratitude, but above all, I do so with an abiding faith in the New Patriotic Party and in its capacity to rise again,” he added.
Mr. Afoko called upon party delegates to grant him the mandate to lead the NPP and assist in securing the presidency for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“I recognise that filing nomination papers does not make me National Chairman. That decision belongs to you, the delegates of our great Party, and I respect that responsibility completely. Over the past several months, I have travelled, listened and engaged. I have spoken with our elders.
“I have met regional and constituency executives. I have listened to polling station officers, communicators, young patriots, women, MPs, former executives and ordinary members whose only position in this party is that they have remained loyal to the elephant through good times and difficult times,” he added.
