The Minority in Parliament has called on the Majority Caucus to make sure all businesses scheduled for the five-day emergency sitting are fully prepared for consideration.
The call comes after Tuesday’s sitting ended without Parliament dealing with some of the key legislative matters that led to the emergency recall.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh questioned why the House was adjourned after only about two hours of proceedings.
He said Parliament should make the most of the limited time available and ensure that all bills on the Order Paper are ready to be considered.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, August 25, Frank Annoh-Dompreh cautioned the Majority against wasting time because some bills were not prepared.
“There are very good reasons why we were recalled, and one of the businesses advertised is the Banks and Specialised Deposit Taking Amendment. We don’t want to come here tomorrow and be told that it is not ready,” he said.
He further raised concerns that the NPA Bill and the Specialised Deposit Taking Amendment Bill were still not ready for consideration.
The Minority is therefore urging the Majority to take immediate steps to ensure that all the bills and other legislative matters scheduled for the emergency sitting are properly prepared and brought before Parliament within the five days.
