The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned residents in parts of northern Ghana about a severe rainstorm that could affect the area.
The warning follows the detection of a strong rainstorm over northern Benin.
GMet said the storm is moving westward and could reach parts of the Upper East, North East, Northern, Upper West and Savannah regions tonight and into the early morning hours.
The storm could bring strong winds, lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall.
These conditions could be dangerous for residents and motorists, especially in areas that experience heavy rain and poor visibility.
In a notice issued on Sunday, August 16, GMet advised people in the affected areas to take safety precautions and stay indoors during periods of heavy rain and lightning.
Residents have also been advised to avoid open areas and staying under isolated trees during the storm because of the risk of lightning strikes and strong winds.
Motorists have been urged to drive carefully, especially when it is raining heavily. Heavy rainfall can reduce visibility and make roads slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.
GMet also encouraged the public to follow official weather updates for the latest information and further safety advice as the storm moves towards Ghana.
