Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has announced her intention to petition Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin regarding comments made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) demonstration titled “Democracy Under Attack”.
She asserts that his remarks were both disrespectful and unwarranted.
This response comes after an exchange that occurred during the presentation of the NPP’s petition at the Presidency on Thursday, August 6, where she was designated to receive the document on behalf of the government.
At the event, Afenyo-Markin questioned the government’s choice to have Nana Jantuah receive the petition, arguing that this decision did not adequately reflect the significance of the issues the NPP aimed to address.
He allegedly referred to her as “a nobody,” claiming that the party had sent its top leadership to present the petition as a sign of respect for the Presidency.
In an interview on Asempa FM later that Thursday, Nana Jantuah conveyed her profound disappointment regarding the Minority Leader’s comments, labeling them as insulting and below the standards expected from a senior public official.
“I am old enough to be your mother. Afenyo-Markin is a small boy in my eyes. Who is he to disrespect me? He should never try that again,” she stated.
The Presidential Staffer indicated that she would formally petition Speaker Alban Bagbin, demanding that the Minority Leader retract his statements, asserting that his comments were unacceptable.
“I will petition the Speaker for Afenyo-Markin to withdraw what he said. He used to call me ‘Senior.’ What has changed? I am so mortified. I cannot comprehend what happened,” she concluded.
