The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the calendar for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, with the campaign scheduled to begin from September 4 to 7, 2026, and conclude between May 28 and 31, 2027.
The approved timetable forms part of the GFA’s efforts to align Ghana’s domestic football calendar with the FIFA calendar for Member Associations, ensuring a smooth and timely completion of the league season.
According to the Association, the structured calendar will improve planning, competitiveness and operational efficiency for clubs, players, officials and other stakeholders involved in the competition.
Following the GFA Congress scheduled for August 20, 2026, participating clubs will have adequate time to complete their pre-season preparations before the start of the new league campaign.
Similar to the previous season, Premier League matches will mainly be played on weekends, while midweek dates will be reserved for outstanding fixtures. The arrangement is expected to provide greater stability in the fixture schedule and reduce disruptions during the season.
The 2026/27 season is expected to deliver another exciting chapter in Ghana’s top-flight football, with defending champions Medeama SC preparing to begin their title defence against some of the country’s most competitive clubs.
The upcoming campaign will also introduce three new teams to the Premier League stage. Debibi United, FC AshantiGold 04 and Port City FC secured promotion from the Division One League and will be aiming to make a strong impression in Ghana’s elite football competition.
The arrival of the promoted sides is expected to add fresh energy and competition to the league as they challenge more established clubs for success.
The GFA has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of the 2026/27 football calendar. The Association said it remains focused on delivering a well-organised, competitive and entertaining season that meets the expectations of clubs, players, sponsors, officials and football supporters across the country.
