Three arrested in GH¢100m tramadol shipment interception at Accra Int’l Airport

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three people after seizing about five million tramadol tablets worth an estimated GH¢100 million at the Accra International Airport (AIA).

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation in which officers intercepted a shipment suspected to contain the illegal pharmaceutical drugs.

In a Facebook post on Friday, July 17, NACOC said the operation is part of its continuous efforts to tackle drug trafficking while protecting public health and national security.

Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment was meant for distribution within Ghana and possibly to other countries across the West African sub-region.

Investigators believe the seizure may be connected to a larger drug trafficking network and are following additional leads to identify and arrest other suspects linked to the operation.

The Commission said it has secured the recovered tramadol tablets as evidence, while forensic analysis and document examinations continue to support the investigation.

NACOC reaffirmed its determination to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates and ensure those involved face the full force of the law.

It also appealed to the public to assist security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities that could help ongoing investigations.

The three suspects are expected to appear before court after investigations are completed, in line with Ghana’s narcotics laws.
