The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has advised the public to save the phone numbers of the nearest fire stations so they can quickly report fire outbreaks in their homes, workplaces, schools, and communities.
The advice comes after a recent fire destroyed an alcohol warehouse in Tema Community 26.
Speaking in an interview, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Ebenezer Yenzu, explained that the emergency number 192 connects callers to the Fire Service’s Master Control Room in Accra.
He said that after receiving the call, the control room forwards it to the appropriate regional office. According to him, this process can sometimes delay emergency response.
“We urge all of us to get the local Fire Service contact to be able to help the service respond promptly,” he said.
Mr. Yenzu also encouraged the public to report fire outbreaks as soon as they happen instead of waiting.
He stressed that making an early call to the Fire Service can help save lives, reduce damage, and protect property.
