Police probe Chief Inspector over alleged sex workers’ structures

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into claims that a Chief Inspector in the region owns unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB that are allegedly rented to commercial sex workers.

In a statement issued on July 10, the Command said it is taking the allegations seriously and has begun investigations to establish the facts surrounding the claims.

The Police assured the public that they would provide updates as the investigation progresses.

Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, signed the statement.

The allegations came to light after a special task force from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly began demolishing illegal structures along the Subin Stream behind the COCOBOD building in Adum.

During the operation, squatters living in the makeshift structures attacked the task force, which included soldiers and city guards.

They threw stones at the team and damaged two pickup trucks and an excavator used for the demolition.

The attack shattered the vehicles’ windscreens and deflated their tyres.

Three members of the task force, including a soldier, sustained various injuries during the confrontation, forcing authorities to suspend the demolition exercise.

Meanwhile, Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman-Boadi has indicated that the Assembly will carry out a second phase of the demolition exercise without prior notice.
