Education Minister orders arrest of Bole SHS teacher over alleged sexual misconduct

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the Ghana Police Service to enhance their efforts in arresting a teacher from Bole Senior High School who is accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior with a student in the school’s science laboratory.

Labelling the incident as “unacceptable and shameful,” the Minister called on investigators to ensure the suspect is arrested and prosecuted, serving as a deterrent to others.

Reports suggest that the teacher has escaped to nearby border communities.

During his address at the 2026 GALOP National School Awards on Thursday, July 9, Mr. Iddrisu stated that the Ministry of Education is closely monitoring the police investigation’s progress and expects the matter to be addressed with urgency and professionalism.

“The incident in Bole is unacceptable and shameful. So, the Police, we are watching you and how you proceed with the investigation and how you go further to prosecution to deter that unacceptable behaviour and conduct of a teacher,” he remarked.

Additionally, the Minister instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to adopt a stringent approach against indiscipline in schools, emphasising that both teachers and students found guilty of misconduct must face appropriate penalties to uphold discipline and professionalism within the education sector.

Meanwhile, the GES has halted the payment of the teacher’s salary after he reportedly failed to report for duty following the incident.
