Prince Owusu denies reports linking him to World Cup bonus demands

Ghanaian striker Prince Osei Owusu has dismissed reports claiming that he or members of his family made demands for a percentage of his earnings should he earn a call-up to represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The forward described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that statements attributed to people allegedly posing as members of his family did not come from him or his representatives.

In a statement responding to the reports, Osei Owusu said: “The claims that individuals pretending to be members of my family stated I would have to give away 70% of any earnings or bonuses if selected for the FIFA World Cup are completely false. These are fake news, and I strongly deny these allegations.”

The player further distanced himself from any comments or rumours suggesting that he had placed financial conditions on a possible national team invitation.

“I completely reject and distance myself from all false statements, rumours, and misleading claims made in my name or on behalf of my family,” he added.

The striker’s denial is aimed at clearing his name and preventing the reports from affecting his relationship with the Ghana Football Association and the national team setup.

Osei Owusu has previously represented Ghana at senior and youth level and has built a career across different leagues, including spells in Germany.

His performances have continued to attract attention, especially as Ghana looks to strengthen its attacking options after the Black Stars elimination from the World Cup at the round of 32.

For Osei Owusu, his focus remains on football as he seeks to earn recognition in later call-ups through his performances on the pitch rather than through off-field discussions.
