The National Identification Authority (NIA), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has introduced a new four-step process to make it easier for Ghanaians living abroad to register for and obtain the Ghana Card.
The process begins with an online application, where applicants are required to complete the registration form and pay the applicable fee through the official registration portal.
For applicants in the United Kingdom and other countries outside Africa, the registration fee is the equivalent of US$115.
After submitting the application, applicants will take part in a virtual interview with an NIA registration officer, who will review and verify their information.
Those whose applications are approved will receive a confirmation message with a QR code.
The next stage involves biometric data capture. Applicants must book an appointment, print their QR code, and visit the nearest Ghana Mission to complete their biometric registration.
To support the exercise, the NIA has announced a special London Pop-Up Registration on August 1, 2026, at Copthall Playing Fields, London, giving Ghanaians in the UK an additional opportunity to complete their biometric registration.
Once the biometric process is completed, the final step will be the printing and issuance of the Ghana Card.
The NIA has encouraged all Ghanaians living abroad to begin their registration by applying through the official online registration portal.
