High tension lines kill two tipper truck operators at Atwima Nwabiagya

Two tipper truck operators have lost their lives after their vehicle came into contact with a high-tension electricity cable while offloading sand at Bokankye in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, a driver and his mate whose identities have not yet been released, were operating a sand-winning truck with registration number GR 483-24 when the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, June 10.

According to reports, the truck’s raised bucket touched an overhead high-voltage power line belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), resulting in a fatal electrocution.

Confirming the incident, the Assembly Member for the Owabi Electoral Area, Osei Kwame Malik, said the victims were immediately rushed to a hospital after the accident but were pronounced dead on arrival.

The bodies have since been deposited at the morgue of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and identification.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Meanwhile, local authorities have urged sand-winning and gravel operators to exercise extreme caution when working near electricity infrastructure and to avoid offloading materials beneath power lines.
