Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimović has sparked debate among football fans after claiming he was a more complete player than Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, despite praising the Norwegian’s remarkable goalscoring ability.
Speaking in a recent interview, Ibrahimović said Haaland is one of the most effective finishers in modern football but argued that his own game offered much more than simply scoring goals.
“I was a more complete player than him,” Ibrahimović said. “If Haaland gets two chances, he’ll score two goals. If I got two chances, I’d score three.”
The former striker, known for his confidence and outspoken personality throughout his career, acknowledged Haaland’s exceptional ability in front of goal.
However, he insisted that his own skill set was broader and allowed him to influence matches in more ways.
“He’s an incredible goal scorer, but I could create, dribble, pass, and score from anywhere. That’s the difference,” he added.
Ibrahimović further suggested that Haaland still has work to do before reaching the level he believes he attained during his playing days.
“Haaland has to do much more to reach the exceptional level I was at,” the former AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona forward said.
While Haaland has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers of his generation, breaking numerous scoring records for club and country.
Haaland has played about 385 games so far, scored 299 goals and assisted in 67 goals.
Ibrahimović built a reputation as one of football’s most technically gifted forwards.
During a career spanning more than two decades, the Swedish star won league titles in several countries and scored spectacular goals that showcased his creativity, strength and technical ability, having won 34 trophies in his career.
He scored over 560 career goals, including more than 500 club goals, and scored in four consecutive decades between the 1990s and the 2020s.
He played about 827 games and made 205 assists.
The two players have different styles.
Haaland is known for his pace, movement and clinical finishing inside the penalty area, while Ibrahimović combined goals scoring with playmaking, flair and a strong physical presence.
At just 25 years old, Haaland still has many years ahead of him to add to his growing list of achievements.
