The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in human trafficking and forcing young women into prostitution at Gbane, a suburb of the Talensi District.
The suspects Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy.
Preliminary investigations indicate that suspect Peace Agbede allegedly met one of the victims in Nigeria and promised to help her pursue a career in the Ghanaian movie industry, citing her physical appearance as an advantage.
The victim reportedly agreed and followed her to Ghana.
Upon arriving in Ghana, the victim was allegedly taken to a mining community at Gbane-Tongo instead of pursuing the promised acting career and was forced into prostitution.
Police say she was made to pay GH¢400 each day to her alleged trafficker, Peace Agbede, from her earnings.
The victim later became pregnant and gave birth on June 26, 2026.
Investigators allege that shortly after the birth, Agbede and her alleged accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, tried to persuade her to sell the newborn baby for GH¢20,000 to a prospective buyer.
A search of Agbede’s room reportedly uncovered six record books containing names including Esther, Mary, Bright and Silver, along with 265 unused condoms.
Police also rescued four female victims, aged between 18 and 20, during the operation.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court.
