The Black Stars have returned to their training base in Rhode Island following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana secured all three points on Wednesday night at BMO Field in Toronto from a stoppage-time goal from World Cup debutant Caleb Yirenkyi.
The victory gave the Black Stars a strong start in Group L and boosted their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
After the match, the team travelled back to their camp in Providence, Rhode Island, arriving in the early hours of Thursday.
The players moved directly to their base, where preparations have already begun for their second group match against England.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team scheduled a recovery training session at Bryant University on Thursday evening to help the players regain fitness after the demanding encounter with Panama.
The session is expected to focus on recovery work, tactical discussions and preparations for the challenge posed by the Three Lions.
Ghana produced a disciplined performance against Panama, keeping their first World Cup clean sheet since 2010.
The result was secured through strong defending, patience and determination, qualities Queiroz praised after the final whistle.
Speaking after the victory, the experienced Portuguese coach commended his players for their resilience and commitment. He described the team as “warriors” who followed the game plan and fought until the very end to secure the winning goal.
Forward Antoine Semenyo, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the match, also expressed confidence ahead of the England clash.
The attacker said the team is determined to “prove a point” and build on the momentum gained from the opening victory.
The upcoming match against England is expected to be one of the toughest tests in Group L. England began their campaign with a victory over Croatia and currently sit at the top of the group on goal difference.
The Black Stars will continue training in Providence over the next few days before travelling for the crucial encounter.
A positive result against England would significantly strengthen Ghana’s chances of reaching the knockout stages and further boost confidence within the squad as the tournament progresses.
