Kumasi Mayor announces return of “Nsamansaman”

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has announced that city authorities will reintroduce sanitation guards, known locally as “Nsamansaman,” across the metropolis starting in July.

He said the move aims to clamp down on residents who continue to dump waste into drains despite previous arrests and prosecutions.

Speaking to the press on Monday, June 8, Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi expressed concern over what he described as ongoing poor sanitation practices in parts of the city.

He said he will personally lead the renewed sanitation campaign in communities to ensure stronger enforcement of sanitation rules.

He explained that the initiative forms part of wider efforts to improve public health and reduce environmental risks linked to poor waste disposal.

“So far, we have sent about 26 to court, but there are still recalcitrant ones. We are not giving up. We will work until we instill discipline. From the 1st of July, we will bring back the Nsamansaman that we used to experience in Kumasi.”

The Mayor stressed that the return of the sanitation guards will support ongoing enforcement actions and help change behaviour among residents who continue to flout sanitation regulations.

City authorities say they expect the renewed presence of the “Nsamansaman” to strengthen discipline and improve cleanliness across Kumasi.
