Desmond Offei to lead Black Stars against Mexico

Assistant coach Desmond Offei will take charge of the Black Stars in their international friendly against Mexico today in Puebla, after head coach Carlos Queiroz was ruled out due to personal reasons.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that Queiroz is unable to travel with the team, leaving Offei to lead the squad for the important warm-up match.

Offei has already been overseeing the team’s preparations since they arrived in Mexico and is expected to continue in that role for the game.

He will be supported by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach and video analyst Gregory De Grauwe, forming the technical team for the fixture.

The match against Mexico is part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars are using the friendly to test their squad, improve team coordination, and assess player performance ahead of the tournament.

Ghana has already been drawn in a tough World Cup group, where they will face England, Croatia, and Panama.

The team is expected to use the remaining international windows to fine-tune tactics and build a strong, balanced squad for the competition.

The Ghana Football Association says preparations remain on track as the team continues its World Cup build-up.
