The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz to continue as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the GFA confirmed that the Portuguese coach will lead the team into the next phase of its international programme.
Queiroz’s previous contract included responsibility for guiding Ghana at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup. His mandate officially ended a few weeks after the tournament.
However, following discussions between the coach, the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the parties agreed to extend his time with the national team under a new coaching mandate.
The new arrangement will begin with the upcoming international window, giving Queiroz the opportunity to continue working with the Black Stars as preparations begin for the next stage of Ghana’s international football programme.
The GFA said Queiroz’s experience at the international level was an important factor in its decision to retain him.
The association also highlighted his technical knowledge and familiarity with the Black Stars as qualities that make him suitable to lead the team into what it described as a new chapter.
The GFA said further information about Queiroz’s new mandate and the team’s upcoming programme would be announced in due course.
