A rainstorm has caused serious disruption to transport in the Ashanti Region after a section of the Sataso road was destroyed, cutting off a key route linking Ejura, Mampong, and Kumasi.
The heavy rains led to the collapse of a bridge along the stretch, making the road completely impassable.
As a result, passengers and vehicles travelling between the northern parts of the region and major urban centres have been left stranded on both sides of the damaged road.
The affected route is an important transport corridor for traders, commuters, and transport operators.
It connects several communities, including Ejura, Yeji, Atebubu, and Prang, linking them through Mampong towards Kumasi, one of the region’s busiest commercial hubs.
With the bridge down, vehicles attempting to cross have been forced to turn back or seek longer alternative routes. Many passengers have been stranded for hours, while transport operators have also been counting losses due to delays and fuel wastage.
Residents say the situation is affecting daily business activities, especially the movement of foodstuffs and other goods from northern farming communities to markets in Kumasi and surrounding towns.
Some traders are worried that prolonged delays could lead to shortages and price increases.
Motorists and commuters are calling on authorities to urgently intervene and repair the damaged section of the road to restore normal movement.
They also want temporary safety measures put in place to prevent accidents around the collapsed bridge.
So far, there has been no official timeline for repairs, but locals are hoping for quick action as the route remains a vital link between the northern and southern parts of the Ashanti Region.
