Asantehene urges Ghanaians to focus on business growth

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged Ghanaians to shift their attention from politics to business development and productivity in order to transform the country’s economy.

Speaking at the Ghana Business Leaders’ Conclave held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra on Friday, May 15, the Asantehene said Ghana must now focus on building businesses, creating jobs, and improving the lives of citizens instead of relying heavily on political discussions and promises.

According to him, as Ghana approaches 70 years of independence, it is important for citizens to reflect on whether the country has truly used its freedom to create prosperity and opportunities for all.

He noted that Ghana has played an important role in Africa’s history and has produced respected personalities across the world.

However, he stressed that the real success of a nation should be measured by the wellbeing of its people through access to food, education, healthcare, housing, and security.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said Ghana’s development over the years has been driven too much by politics rather than practical nation-building.

He explained that loyalty to political parties has often become stronger than loyalty to the country itself.

He also criticised the tendency to celebrate politicians while paying little attention to hardworking entrepreneurs and innovators whose efforts help grow the economy.

The Asantehene called on Ghanaians to embrace hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and innovation.

He stressed that the country must move away from excessive talk and focus more on production, enterprise, and value creation.

He further urged political leaders to create stable policies and a good business environment while encouraging citizens, professionals, and institutions to contribute actively to national development.

He expressed hope that the next decade would bring economic transformation through ethical businesses, innovation, and sustainable growth in Ghana.
