Debibi United have secured their first promotion to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) after a thrilling 3-1 comeback victory over Tamale City in the Access Bank Division One League Zone One playoff final at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The decisive playoff brought together the winners of the two groups (Zone One A and B), with only one promotion spot available to the Ghana Premier League next season.
Tamale City, who previously played in the Ghana Premier League, made a bright start and took an early lead through Victor Kodom, putting Debibi United under pressure in the opening stages of the match.
However, Debibi United responded in impressive fashion with striker Kwadwo Antwi producing a sensational display.
The forward scored a stunning first-half hat-trick to completely turn the game around and hand his side a memorable victory.
Antwi found the net three times before halftime, sending the club’s supporters into wild celebrations as Debibi United moved closer to securing promotion.
The victory confirms Debibi United’s first-ever qualification to the Ghana Premier League since the club was formed.
The Techiman-based club have enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the Access Bank Division One League, they have joined their compatriots, Port City FC and AshantiGold O4, who have also qualified for the GPL next season.
Debibi United were one of the most consistent teams in Zone One throughout the season. Their attacking strength and defensive discipline played a major role in their successful campaign as they emerged as serious contenders for promotion.
Kwadwo Antwi’s performance in the playoff final will undoubtedly remain one of the standout moments of the season.
