The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor,  has called on the media to exercise great care in reporting on the detention of the MP for Asante Akyem North in the Netherlands in order to avoid spreading information that has not been confirmed.

He explained that the legal team handling the matter has still not received all the official documents connected to the case.

According to him, the lawyer representing the detained MP in Amsterdam has not yet obtained an authenticated copy of the arrest documents.

Mr. Dafeamekpor said the prosecutor in charge and the legal representatives involved are still working through the process of preparing and releasing the required documents for official examination.

He urged the public and media organisations to remain calm and avoid comments or reports that could negatively affect efforts to handle the issue properly.

“We want to urge all the media houses not to be throwing in things that haven’t been confirmed. So let’s stay calm and don’t jeopardise the issues,” he said.

The South Dayi MP also revealed that Parliament and other state institutions are actively engaging the relevant authorities to help resolve the matter.

He further assured the public that officials are using both diplomatic and legal channels to support the detained Member of Parliament as discussions continue.
