The Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region has successfully recovered a significant quantity of ammunition that was hidden at a mechanic workshop located near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga.

According to the police, this recovery occurred after a report was filed on Saturday, May 9, 2026, by an auto mechanic who informed the authorities upon discovering suspicious items at the workshop, as noted by his apprentice.

The police clarified that the apprentice stumbled upon these items while cleaning the workshop premises, which led the mechanic to promptly alert the authorities.

A team of officers from the Upper East Regional Police Command then proceeded to the location to investigate the report.

Upon their arrival, the officers carried out a search of the area and found two sealed packets concealed within fertiliser sacks that had been stored in a hen coop on the property.

The police reported that the packets contained a total of 1,400 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition.

According to the command, each of the two packets held 700 rounds of ammunition.

The recovered ammunition has since been placed in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police have indicated that efforts are currently being made to determine the source, ownership, and intended use of the ammunition.

Meanwhile, authorities have not yet disclosed any arrests related to this discovery.
