The National Labour Commission (NLC) is set to convene with leaders from the National Identification Authority (NIA) and other pertinent stakeholders on Thursday, May 14, 2026, to mediate ongoing labour issues.
In a previous announcement, union members nationwide were instructed not to report to work starting at midnight on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, until further notice.
Speaking in an interview, the Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NIA, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, stated that notifications have been issued to NIA management, union leadership, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and all relevant stakeholders for discussions regarding conditions of service.
“The National Labour Commission yesterday [Tuesday, May 13] issued summons inviting the management of the National Identification Authority, the leadership of the union, the local union, and then the mother union, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and then the Finance Ministry.
“The summons, or the invitation, was expected on May 20, but now there’s another letter from the National Labour Commission bringing it to Thursday, May 14, 2026. They want to see all the parties so they can arbitrate,” he said.
He mentioned that some of their offices are operational due to the directive from the National Labour Commission.
He also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured affected customers that operations will fully resume on Thursday, following the strike action.
“As we speak, some of our offices are working as a result of the directive by the National Labour Commission, because after the invitation, they are directed that the strike is called off.
“We anticipate that all our officers will be at their posts and able to serve the good people of Ghana. And so for today [May 13], those who turn up in our offices and were unable to get our services, we apologise for the inconvenience caused.
“We assure them that we are putting in place measures to ensure that our services are not disrupted,” Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas assured in an interview on Channel One TV.
