Former Ghana coach Otto Addo has been named as the only African member of FIFA’s newly announced Technical Study Group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The appointment is another major recognition for the former Black Stars coach, who guided Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, qualified the team to the 2026 World Cup and remains one of the respected football minds on the continent.

FIFA’s Technical Study Group is responsible for analysing matches during the tournament, studying tactics, player performances, set pieces, and emerging trends in the game.

The group also contributes to decisions on individual awards, including the prestigious Golden Ball prize.

Otto Addo will work alongside several well-known figures in world football. The group includes former Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann, former Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta, former Brazil midfielder Gilberto Silva, former Denmark and Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, and former Costa Rica striker Paulo Wanchope.

Also named in the technical team are former Switzerland goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler, women’s football legend Tobin Heath, football executive Jayne Ludlow, former Dutch international Aron Winter, and experienced analyst Michael O’Neill.
