Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has openly thrown his support for Wendy Shay to win the Artiste of the Year at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), set for May 9, 2026.
Speaking in an interview, he remarked that while all nominees are worthy, a victory for Wendy Shay would represent a refreshing and significant moment for the industry.
“I would be a beautiful story if Wendy picked it up. I am just saying even from the outlook. Of course, I would love for Medikal too, because he put in a lot of work. But it will be beautiful [if Wendy wins]. It will make me smile really big,” he stated.
Wendy Shay is nominated alongside Medikal, Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie in the Artiste of the Year category.
Should she win, it would mark her first time receiving the top award, similar to Medikal. Black Sherif and Diana Hamilton each hold one Artiste of the Year title, while Stonebwoy and Sarkodie have each won it twice.
Last year, King Promise secured the award after a competitive season that ignited intense discussions regarding PR campaigns and media debates among the nominees.
The Artiste of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards is defined as the Artiste(s) deemed by the Academy, Board, and the General Public to possess the highest audience appeal and popularity during the year in question.
The artist must have released a hit Single/EP/Album and must be among those with the highest nominations for that year.
