Medikal has stressed that he should be crowned the Artiste of the Year at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), referencing his influence and accomplishments over the last year.
In an interview, the rapper underscored that his consistency, impact, and autonomy distinguish him from others.
Reflecting on his path, Medikal recognised previous obstacles but asserted that they have shaped his present outlook.
“Sometimes you need to fail to win. That failure shouldn’t break you as a human being. It never broke me, and I’m still here,” he said on Hitz FM.
He also emphasised his commitment to assisting emerging artistes, noting that he frequently goes above and beyond to support others in the field.
“If you’re a young, upcoming artiste and you send me a song and want a verse and I do it for free for you, I’ve put you on,” he stated, adding, “I don’t take less than GH¢100K for a verse, so if I do it for free, that’s real support.”
Medikal highlighted his independence as a significant accomplishment, asserting that he has developed his brand and executed major initiatives without the support of a record label.
He mentioned his self-financed concert at the Accra Sports Stadium as a pivotal moment.
“I’m an independent artiste, no label. One man,” he said. “Putting about GH¢3 million into a concert and having a sold-out show with people coming from across Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria—that’s not small.”
The rapper remarked that his body of work over the past year bolsters his claim to the prestigious award.
“After putting in so much work, dropping songs and an album, and doing a show single-handedly, that’s why this time I’m loud about it,” he explained.
Medikal is confident that his contributions to the industry and his accomplishments over the past year render him a worthy candidate for the Artiste of the Year title at the TGMA.
