The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a key sponsor of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025 (Anti-LGBTQ bill), has requested that the government act quickly.
He called on the Attorney General to create clear enforcement rules within 12 months of the bill becoming law.
The Assin South MP believes that passing a law is only the first step; making it work in the real world is what truly matters for the country.
This call for urgency follows a common frustration within Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee.
Lawmakers noticed a worrying trend where ministers secure the passage of a bill but then fail to provide the “legislative instruments” needed to enforce it.
Rev. Fordjour addressed these concerns during a stakeholder meeting on Friday, April 24, insisting that this specific legislation must become fully operational the moment the President signs it.
He argues that the bill’s success depends on a tight partnership between the original sponsors and the various government ministries.
Without this teamwork, the law risks sitting on a shelf without any real power to change lives or guide society.
To prevent delays, the MP is pushing for a strict timeline. He expects the responsible ministers to treat the rollout as a top priority.
By setting a one-year goal, he hopes to see the law backed by practical strategies that the public can understand and follow.
“It is expected that with close collaboration between the sponsors and the relevant ministries, the minister responsible in this context will, as a matter of urgency, take steps as soon as it is assented to by the President. So within one year, we should have the full bill with the necessary implementation strategies to be able to see it running,” he said.
