Accra–Kumasi expressway project faces timeline concerns

The President of the Ghana Institute of Architects, Tony Asare, has questioned how quickly the Accra–Kumasi Expressway can be completed.

According to Mr Asare, the project may take longer than expected because of its complexity.

He made this comment after the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, revealed that the road could be completed within three years.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, April 20, Mr Asare explained that several important steps must happen before construction starts.

He said engineers must first carry out detailed surveys. Authorities must also secure the required land. Teams must then complete proper engineering designs.

He stressed that these steps take time, careful planning, and strong coordination.

Mr Asare said that many people overlook these early processes. He said these stages strongly affect whether projects meet deadlines.

He warned that rushing these steps can reduce the road’s quality and long-term durability.

“Knowing the processes you must go through to be able to start road construction, I am not very confident whether we will be able to finish the road in two years.

We will need to do the road survey and the land acquisition of the reservation itself before we come out with various surveys to be able to determine how bridges and other things will be designed, before we start the construction. If they do a good project management strategy, I can say it can be finished in 36 months, but we don’t need to politicise the completion,” he said.
