The lifeless body of a newborn baby girl has been deposited at the mortuary as police investigate the circumstances of her death.

The newborn was discovered early on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Kronkromase Cemetery in the Atasomanso Electoral Area of the Ashanti Region.

Abdul Samid, the Assembly Member for the Atasomanso Electoral Area, said he and residents reported the incident to the Kronkromase Police Station immediately after finding the child.

The Upper Ashanti Regional Police confirmed that the body has been taken to the mortuary pending investigations.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched enquiries to identify the parents and determine how the baby came to be abandoned.

The police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
