GFA discussed spiritual solutions to Ghana football problems — Baah Agyemang

Former National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has claimed that spiritual interventions were discussed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council as part of efforts to address challenges confronting Ghana football.

According to Baah Agyemang, some members of the GFA Executive Council considered involving a pastor or religious figure to pray or perform rituals at a football field in response to the difficulties facing the sport.

He said such approaches should not replace the structural reforms needed to address the problems within Ghana football.

Baah Agyemang, speaking in an interview, said he also accepts responsibility for the challenges facing the administration of the game.

“I won’t exempt myself. I’m part of it, especially the administration. We need to develop the game and fix the structure,” he said.

He argued that Ghana football needs a comprehensive review rather than short-term measures focused mainly on qualifying for major international tournaments.

Baah Agyemang said continued emphasis on securing qualification for the World Cup or Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) without addressing deeper structural concerns would leave the sport facing similar challenges in the future.

“We need reforms. Let’s start afresh with new people, new ideas and a new direction. Not another knee-jerk, makeshift solution,” he said.

He further cautioned against relying on prayers or other temporary interventions as substitutes for proper planning and institutional reforms.

“If we don’t do that and continue relying on prayers or short-term fixes, we’ll be having the same conversation again because there are no proper plans in place,” he added in an interview on Kessben FM.
