FIFA bans Karela United over unpaid debt to former player

Ghana Premier League side Karela United have been hit with a registration ban by FIFA after failing to settle a financial obligation owed to former player Sana Camara.

The decision was communicated by FIFA in a letter dated August 17, 2026, through the world football governing body’s Legal Portal.

The case relates to an earlier ruling under case number FPSD-23160, which the club has reportedly failed to comply with.

FIFA’s disciplinary department said Karela United remained in default of its financial responsibility towards Camara despite the previous decision ordering the club to fulfil its obligations.

As a result, FIFA has activated a registration ban against the club. The sanction prevents Karela United from registering new players at both the domestic and international levels.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has also been instructed by FIFA to enforce the restriction at the national level if it has not already been implemented.

The exact amount owed to Camara has not been disclosed in the FIFA communication. However, the ban will remain in place until Karela United settles the outstanding amount in line with the original ruling.

FIFA has indicated that the restriction can remain active for a maximum of three complete and consecutive registration periods if the financial obligation remains unpaid.

The development is a setback for Karela United as the club prepares for the new Ghana Premier League season. The inability to register new players could affect the club’s plans to strengthen its squad during the transfer window.

Karela United, which has recently changed its ownership and operations, will now need to resolve the financial dispute before it can return to normal player-registration activities.
