The Ministry of Health has strongly condemned the alleged assault of a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic and has called on the public to show respect and support for healthcare workers.
The Ministry’s reaction follows a video circulating on social media that reportedly shows a relative of a patient physically attacking a midwife at the health facility on June 2, 2026.
The incident is said to have happened while the midwife was enforcing the facility’s visiting hours policy.
In a Facebook post on Friday, June 5, 2026, the Ministry expressed concern over the incident and stressed that violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable.
“The Ministry of Health strongly condemns all forms of violence against health workers and calls on the public to respect and protect healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to serving patients and communities,” the Ministry posted.
“It is worthy of note that violence, intimidation, and abuse against healthcare professionals are unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” it added.
The Ministry explained that hospitals and clinics are places where people receive care, treatment, and support.
Therefore, health workers must be allowed to carry out their duties in a safe environment without fear of threats, harassment, or physical attacks.
According to the Ministry, attacks on healthcare workers not only put their lives at risk but can also affect the quality and delivery of healthcare services to patients who depend on them.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting health workers and improving security measures at healthcare facilities across the country.
In addition, it expressed support for the assaulted midwife, the staff of Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, and all healthcare professionals working across Ghana.
“The Ministry stands in solidarity with the affected nurse, the staff of Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, and all health workers across the country.
“The Ministry of Health remains committed to protecting healthcare workers and strengthening security measures at health facilities nationwide to ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to all Ghanaians,” it said.
The Ministry’s statement comes after a six-member delegation, acting on the instructions of Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, visited the injured midwife to offer support and reassure her of the Ministry’s commitment to her welfare while investigations into the incident continue.
The Ministry says it will continue working to ensure the safety of healthcare workers so they can provide quality healthcare services to the public without fear or intimidation.
