The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Germany to put aside their differences and unite as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
He made the appeal during a Thanksgiving Service and Unity Dinner organised by the NPP Germany Branch in Hannover from October 9 to 10, 2026.
Sammy Awuku said the party’s newly elected national executives needed the support and cooperation of members at all levels to rebuild its structures and strengthen its chances of returning to power.
He also called on the branch’s leadership to demonstrate humility, respect and selflessness, stressing that leadership should be defined by service rather than authority.
“A mandate is a privilege, not a licence to disregard others; trust must be earned through service,” he said.
Sammy Awuku further encouraged members of the diaspora to contribute to the party’s mobilisation efforts and engage their families in Ghana on its policies ahead of the next elections.
He also criticised aspects of the government’s performance in education, health, sports and industry, raising concerns about the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy and the placement of more than 50,000 Junior High School graduates.
The MP described the work of the NPP’s 87 opposition MPs as challenging but said they remained committed to what they considered the country’s best interests.
Mr Awuku’s visit also served as preparation for an expected engagement between the Germany branch and former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on November 21.
