Dennis Miracles Aboagye links EOCO arrest to NPP election bid, denies GHS55 million claims

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye has suggested that his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) was connected to his decision to contest for the position of National Communications Director of the party.

In a public statement for the first time since his release from EOCO custody, Dennis Aboagye claimed the timing of his arrest raised questions, noting that he was detained just a day after announcing his intention to contest the party’s internal election.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, he said, “Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO.”

Miracles suggested that attempts had been made to damage his reputation through what he described as a “false narrative” surrounding his arrest.

“A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail,” he wrote.

Dennis Aboagye also rejected widespread reports alleging that he had been questioned over an alleged GHS55 million financial scandal linked to the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), where he previously served in a leadership role.

According to him, the alleged amount was never discussed during his interrogation by EOCO.

“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!” he stated, dismissing the claims as inaccurate.

Despite his arrest and subsequent detention, he insisted that he remains committed to contesting the NPP’s National Communications Director position.

“If the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly,” he said, adding that he would continue his campaign regardless of the challenges.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested at the Accra International Airport on Saturday and was granted GHS50 million bail on Tuesday with three sureties, two of whom must justify the bail with properties of equivalent value.
