A moderate to heavy rainstorm is expected to hit parts of northern Ghana, bringing thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and strong winds, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned.
The storm is expected to affect the Upper East, North East and Northern regions first, with rainfall likely to begin within the next hour.
According to the weather alert, the system will gradually move westwards later in the day, affecting the Upper West and Savannah regions.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to take precautions as the storm could bring varying levels of rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds.
GMet has urged residents to plan their activities around the expected weather conditions and allow extra time for travel.
Where possible, people have also been advised to avoid travelling during periods of heavy rainfall.
Motorists have been asked to exercise extra caution on the roads.
The advisory said drivers should “reduce speed, use headlights, and avoid crossing flooded roads or low-lying bridges”.
Farmers, market traders and outdoor workers have also been advised to prepare for the storm by securing loose items, farm produce and equipment that could be damaged or blown away by strong winds.
Communities prone to flooding, particularly those near rivers, have been urged to remain alert. GMet specifically highlighted areas around Dambai and communities along the Oti River.
Residents have been encouraged to monitor official weather updates and take appropriate action if conditions worsen.
GMet has urged the public to rely on official weather information as the system develops.
