The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has given Electrochem Ghana Limited seven days to settle an outstanding tax liability of GH¢8.6 million or face enforcement actions in accordance with the country’s tax laws.
The directive follows a tax compliance exercise by officials of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of the GRA, who visited the company’s premises as part of ongoing efforts to recover outstanding tax obligations and improve domestic revenue mobilisation.
According to the Authority, the amount represents unpaid tax liabilities that remain outstanding despite previous engagements with the company aimed at facilitating compliance.
Officials of the GRA indicated that while the Authority prefers voluntary compliance and engagement with taxpayers, it will not hesitate to apply the necessary sanctions where businesses fail to honour their obligations.
“We have given the company a seven-day ultimatum to settle the outstanding amount or make satisfactory arrangements for payment, failing which the Authority will be compelled to initiate enforcement measures as provided by law,” a GRA official stated.
The Authority explained that the exercise forms part of a broader nationwide tax compliance and revenue assurance campaign targeting businesses and institutions with outstanding tax obligations.
“Our objective is to ensure that all businesses comply with their tax obligations and contribute fairly to national development,” the official added.
The GRA further noted that taxes remain a critical source of funding for public infrastructure, healthcare, education and other essential government services, making compliance a civic and corporate responsibility.
Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, is one of Ghana’s major salt production companies and plays a significant role in the country’s industrial salt industry.
The Authority has reiterated its commitment to intensifying compliance checks and recovering outstanding tax revenues from both corporate entities and individuals across the country.
“The GRA remains committed to ensuring fairness within the tax system and will continue to apply the law uniformly to all taxpayers,” the Authority stressed.
