The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, detailing schedules for both single-track and transitional schools.
In a statement released by the GES on June 1, the GES encouraged parents, students, teachers, and school administrators to take note of the dates and prepare thoroughly for the forthcoming academic year.
“The Management of GES wishes to inform parents/guardians, students, and the public that the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year has been finalised,” the statement said.
Under the single-track system, Form One and Form Two students will commence the first semester on September 18, 2026, and remain in school until January 29, 2027, before going on vacation until March 29, 2027.
The second semester will take place from March 30 to July 30, 2027.
Form Three students in single-track schools will begin classes on September 18, 2026, and conclude their first semester on December 18, 2026.
After a vacation period ending January 31, 2027, they will return to school on February 1 and finish the academic year on June 18, 2027.
For transitional schools, Form One students will alternate between in-person and online learning. They will start in-person studies on September 18, 2026, before transitioning to online learning from November 16 to December 18, 2026.
After a break, they will return to school from February 8 to April 16, 2027, and resume online learning from April 19 to May 14, 2027.
The second semester for Form One students in transitional schools will run from June 21 to August 27, 2027.
Form Two students in transitional schools will begin school on November 16, 2026, and continue until February 5, 2027, followed by an online learning period from February 8 to March 5, 2027.
Their second semester will start on April 19 and conclude on August 27, 2027.
Form Three students in transitional schools will be in attendance from September 18 to December 18, 2026, after which they will resume classes on January 5, 2027, and conclude the academic year on June 18, 2027.
GES has also announced that the Christmas break will occur from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, and the Easter break is set for March 25 to March 30, 2027.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is anticipated to be conducted from April 6 to June 18, 2027, while a mid-semester break for Form Two students is planned for June 17 to June 20, 2027.
