Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are set to stage a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, over the proposed private sector participation (PSP) in the company.
The action is being organised by the Senior Staff Union (SSU) and Junior Staff Union (JSU), with the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) convening the exercise.
The unions said the demonstration will take place across all ECG operational regions and will culminate in the presentation of a petition to President John Dramani Mahama.
In a directive signed by SSU National Chairman Christopher Apawu and JSU National Chairman Lucky Larry Agboka, divisional and branch leaders were asked to mobilise members for the protest.
The petition will be presented to regional ministers for onward submission to the President.
The demonstration is scheduled for 8:00am to 4:00pm. In Accra, workers will assemble at the forecourt of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), while those in Kumasi will gather at the ECG Regional Office at the Airport Roundabout.
Workers in other regions are expected to assemble at their respective ECG regional offices, with demonstration routes to be announced later.
The unions said members will continue wearing red armbands, which formed part of an earlier phase of their action against the proposed PSP.
PUWU has also notified the Inspector General of Police of the planned demonstration in accordance with the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
National and regional committees will coordinate the exercise, with further details to be communicated to members.
