The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced an increase in the producer price of cocoa from GH¢41,392 to GH¢42,400 per tonne for the 2026/27 cocoa season.
The new price, which takes effect from Friday, September 25, 2026, translates into GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogramme bag of cocoa.
Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr Randy Abbey, announced the revised price during the official opening of the 2026/27 cocoa season.
He explained that the new producer price represents 71.18% of the realised gross free-on-board (FOB) value of cocoa.
According to Dr Abbey, the decision was reached after extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the cocoa industry, including the Minister of Finance, cocoa farmers and the Chamber of Cocoa Marketers, which comprises Licensed Buying Companies, hauliers and processors.
The adjustment represents an increase of GH¢1,008 per tonne over the producer price for the 2025/26 cocoa season.
Dr Abbey also outlined key reforms introduced under the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026 (Act 1182), which he said are designed to improve governance and ensure the long-term sustainability of the country’s cocoa industry.
Under the new legislation, cocoa farmers are guaranteed a minimum of 70% of the realised gross FOB price of cocoa.
The Act also provides stronger protection for cocoa farms against illegal small-scale mining, establishes a new financing framework to promote domestic value addition and prohibits COCOBOD from engaging in quasi-fiscal activities.
Dr Abbey said the reforms are intended to enhance farmers’ earnings, strengthen the financial and institutional structures of the cocoa sector and ensure sustainable growth in Ghana’s cocoa industry.
