22-year-old Okada rider murdered at Nyame Bekyere

Residents of Nyame Bekyere, a farming community located near Akoase in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, are in a state of shock following the murder of a 22-year-old commercial motorcycle rider.

The victim, known as Eric Nyarko and commonly referred to as “Junior,” was reportedly killed while engaged in his Okada business.

Family members and fellow riders are urging the Ghana Police Service to enhance their investigations and bolster security in the area.

As stated by the deceased’s sister, Darkoa Grace, Eric left home for work but did not return.

She detailed that after numerous unsuccessful attempts to find him, the family called his mobile phone, which was answered by an unknown individual before it was subsequently turned off.

The family later received news that the young rider had been murdered.

Grace has called upon the police to carry out comprehensive investigations and ensure that the culprits are apprehended and brought to justice.

In the meantime, some Okada riders and relatives of the deceased have expressed that the incident has instilled fear among commercial riders operating in the vicinity.

They assert that this is not the first instance of such an attack occurring in Nyame Bekyere, claiming that similar incidents have taken place there previously.

Consequently, they are appealing to security agencies and local authorities to regard the situation as a significant security issue to aid in the protection of residents and commercial motorcycle riders.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for preservation and further investigations, while police initiate a manhunt for the unidentified attackers.
